We're waitin for ya man. Been savin some monsters up just for you :Heya:

You hunting that lease you'd mentioned?

Yep. Getting in late on Wednesday 17th. Gotta organize and pack all my junk thursday and check the rifles for zero, hit wally world for last minute junk food and head out early friday morning.

Always have a big dinner gathering at the ranch HQ's on Friday night that I look forward to. I wish I could invite you up for a hunt but it is not possible this year as the camo is going to be full with allof my wife's side of the family. Think there will be seven of us but only two hunting, myself and my FIL. Gonna take my Seven year old into the ground blind with me for the first time. Boy is he excited. Possibly next year something can work out. He is a VERY particular person as to who he allows to hunt on his lease with him. Great man but doesn't put up with anyones chit. I'm born and raised in Cali, surfer, ocean fisherman and all the other crap we do at the beach and he is like and old school Grizzly Adams but some how we mesh real well.

Stew, NIce buck. Were is Terry's you spoke of? City? That thing is a dandy!!!!!

No worries, man. Totally understandable - I'd be particular too! I'm excited for ya. Hope to see a fellow Californian harvest a monster. Awesome that you're taking the little one in the blind! Way to start em early! Happy hunting. You whack a good one better come on back and show it off!

Thanks guys. This was one of those times where you KNOW you made a perfect shot, so that makes it fun. I saw the fletchings bury up right where I wanted them in slow motion and knew everything came together instantly.

This doe sets a couple firsts for me. Earliest in the year I've ever connected (by 6 days), and the first time I've ever beat my dad and hunting partner to the first deer of the year.

I'm kicking around the idea of taking the recurve out a couple times this week now that I have meat. I've never taken a deer with a trad bow to date.
With my luck I'll have the biggest buck I've ever seen in compound range with that recurve in my hand. I can't (or won't) shoot very far with it. :D

Funny thing I am the opposite... My wife got me a really nice wheel bow two Christmas's ago and I have never taken anything with a compound bow... I have aways hunted recurve since I was a kid.... Compound bows are hard for me to shoot... recurve seems natural to me.....

Made it out this morning, and moved to another stand thats in a bottle neck of the woods. Nothing was moving much except for the hawk that landed on a nearby limb and woke me up.:D
About 0800 a doe came down the edge of the treeline right into my shooting lane. What was odd, is that everytime she put one of her front feet down, she stomped it down, not trying to be quiet at all. She was really nervous acting. Here lately I've been seeing other does act really nervous.
Also have seen some large CANINE (not cat) tracks in the creek bank.
Nobody in this area has dogs of any kind, in-fact there are only three houses in a 20 square mile area.
So, I'm thinking somebody has dumped one, and that dog is roaming the woods. I kept looking at her as she got closer, thinking if she spotted something I might get a look as well. She kept getting closer until she was 3' away from my ladder stand. When she walked off, I thought that a 250 grain Hornady SST would calm her down, and you know what?
It certainly did:D

She weighed in at 105 lbs.
Again, the crappy cell phone pics.
