I think it depends on your location and department. I my case I enjoyed 20 years with either the PD or SO. I would do it again where I am located, some other places not so much.

I would never try and talk someone into that line of work!

I'm a probation/parole officer in Arkansas. This is my 28th year of working in various criminal justice systems both state and federal. We are LEOs and I work closely with city, county and state agencies. Do it. It will be great for your personal development if nothing else. You'll learn to be more rational, understand how the law really works, and see first-hand how hard a turd has to really work to get sent away for a few years and how many man hours go into making it happen. You'll learn to pick your battles and be fair and objective with everyone you deal with.
