Term limits wouldn't solve all of our problems but it'd be. great start. Te problem is no politician in congress would vote for it so it is up to the citizens to somehow insist on term limits and we still wouldn't have term limits.

Term limits were passed back in the '90's, but the Supreme Court ruled them unconstitutional. Term limits supposedly prevents the citizenry its "free speech" rights to vote for whomever they want. If they want a 10-time incumbent Representative or Senator, they can vote for them provided that politician runs for the office.

That said, they would have to vote a constitutional amendment and then get the states to sign in on them as well. So, one would have to go through numerous "legislatures" to get term limits.

I think it's worth a try ...

If term limits are unconstitutional, why do presidents have 'em?
:drunk2:
Because of the 22nd Amendment, ratified on February 27, 1951.
FDR had spent 4 terms as President and only left office when he died shortly after his inauguration.
Prior to that clear back to Washington, there were no term limits.

The great irony is that the next President who might have been elected to a third term was Ronald Reagan.

There is a possibility of a third term if biden is removed from office because he is so brain dead. BTW Pelosi has already set this up. Heels up ho kamala would serve out his first term and have the constitutional ability to serve two more.

A third term for whom?
If Trump is elected in 2024, which I don't think he wants to be, he'll only be eligible to serve one term. Besides, he'll be pretty long in the tooth by then.
