So school me, what is the difference between an AR platform SBR and an AR platform pistol?
One has a butt stock the other has an arm brace that is all I know and my buddy has one of them with arm brace and it is difficult to hold like a pistol and stay on target for me.
Just too much weight.

That is what I thought years ago about Harley Davidson motorcycles.
There were more than 10:1 of those for sale in the papers or bike trader than the Japan bikes.

I thought it was because people got those Harleys and wanted to be cool and get chicks and it did not work out in their favor.
I know of a couple people that bought them for that reason.

Now I see a lot of 7" or other short barrel AR barrels or complete "Pistols" for sale.

Could it be the same issue. You thought it would be cool and then found it was all hype and decided something more sensible fit the bill?

I held a buddies SBR and just can't get into it.
I do not think he likes it either as he never takes it out to play.
The gun was designed around the .223 cartridge in a 20"bbl and the military and civilians have been running hotter ammo and shortening barrels and beating the snot out parts and breaking them ever since, bolts, extractors (from trying to extract still expanded brass)....timing is everything....not to mention most "ARs" today are of anything but milspec build and are reverse engineered of various levels of competence, only Colt and now FN have the actual drawings/specifications..wonderfully sweet reliable shooters in .223/20"....I find the shorter obnoxious to shoot and action harsh.

Thought I'd mention, that if you want an effective AR at 100m, 20" is the way to go, and if you want a handy car/truck gun, install the M4 buttstock on an A4 20", or install an A4 upper on an M4 and leave buttstock at first deployed position. Quite handy and you get a very significant boost in velocity with original length, and the tumbling and fragmentation on which the AR depends for effectivity.

If it did not work out in their favor they did something very wrong. I'm not sure how many years ago you're talkin', but in the 80s and early 90s having a cool chopper meant never being lonely. Another point - having a bike as your only ride meant you must maintain some standards of what you'd sample. You don't want everyone to see you with a fat, ugly broad on your bike with you.

I do notice that the scale and mirror don't affect what some bikers will accept these days.
We got a little older.
The Jap bike thing changed too. Maybe not for the skinny chick deal, but there are some pretty big Jap Bike clubs now a day. I think some of them specialize in big chicks. Hence Big Jap Bike Clubs.
I always preferred the Harley Company. Younger days I wanted that outlaw appearance. I knew I was not tough, but wanted the appearance. Was more interested in the Crowd benefits, loose women, might get to see a wet t shirt or something like that.
Still like the Harley Crowd, but it has changed considerable, Most of them are very friendly grey headed Americans, that Love to take short rides, hang out, eat, drink, tea, share going to the Dr. stories. Still Hope for the Wet t shirts.
Gold Wing crowd is Pretty Cool for the most part, but as a dedicated Harley owner, I can not tell them, I have a Rep to Hold Up, but do Love to Hang out with them.
Kind of like being a Sig boy, or a Glock fan, or a Colt owner, Revolver Guy .......
All fine just slight differences in the Owners and there Machines.

Hope there is some Humor in the post, cause that is my Goal.

Not the Older deal, I still want the Young benefits, but they are slipping away.
