I didn't get prices, but the Tinker BX is running a deal on stainless/synthetic 10/22s...buy a 10/22 and you can also buy a 1k brick of winchester M-22 ammo. There was a pile of rifles and a pallet of ammo when I went in there at 4pm today. You CANNOT buy the ammo without buying a rifle.

Wait, what? I thought they didn't let you buy a gun and ammo in the same session? They always escorted us to the door and handed us the gun as we left.

Either way, how long is the promotion going on for?

Yeah, you can buy guns and ammo at the same time...not sure how long the combo is going on for but judging by how many folks were lined up, it won't last long.

The PX in my day sold mostly Brownings, but for some reason they quit selling them in 1973 when I was in Korea. Put them on clearance, and I picked up two SA-22's for $50 each.

Still have them.

When did the BX/PX system decide to start selling guns again?

When I DROS'd and came back to the states in 75, the PX's didn't sell them then either.

A little over a year and a half ago, when you could buy both at same time. They still walk you to the door. They also have 10% off their firearms till I believe Thurs.

You really got to watch their prices though too. Up until about a year ago, they would do a 17% markup on the guns, now its 30+%.

I wonder why you can buy a firearm on a military base, but if I as a civilian -EVEN BEING A SWORN POLICE OFFICER- comes onto a military base, I CAN NOT have my weapon with me. :screwy:

The two are completely unrelated, and are covered by entirely separate regulations.
1. You may come on the base armed ONLY on official business, in coordination with base security. The regulation that covers who can be armed on base specifies Official Business Only, as authorized by the installation commander. You have NO authority on the base except what the installation commander extends to you.

2. The BX/PX sells items for the benefit of the military personnel, including knives and guns. The guns cannot be loaded, and MUST be either removed from the installation, kept in authorized family housing. or stored secured as per base regulation.

3. On bases like Ft Sill that have firing ranges open to retirees, I register my gun with the security, and transport unloaded and locked as per base regulation, and must go directly to and from the range. I can't just drive around on the base with a gun stored in the vehicle.
Ft Sill regulation is posted on their website.

4. Military personnel under specific orders are armed with military weapons for specific purposes at specific times.
