Thanks, I like the early ford hot rod look, so I'm now looking at model A sedans!

Some time back, we saw these in Sulphur, OK. Apparently, the owners were in a local restaurant as a group.

I'm 75 years old, and have had several hobbies that I got too old to pursue. I started watching car shows on TV, and decided that would be something my wife and I could still do, ride around, and look cool! I found what I was looking for in Kansas, A 1931 Ford Coupe, that was restored in 1989 but still looked good, This car made the cover of Hot Rod Magazine back in the 90's, and only needed minor upgrades, like replacing the 34 year old tires. We went to look planning to make an offer, and on the test drive I wanted to get it warmed up good, and stop and check for leaks. I pulled over on a wide shoulder, to check for leaks, this car was smaller than I remembered, and I had to literally crawl in, and out. While getting out, I somehow fell backward into the outside traffic lane on my back. Luckily there was no traffic in this lane at that moment, so I crawled over and got my hat, and glasses, then had to crawl back over to the car to be able to get up. Needless to say traffic was stopping etc. I about half expect to see this show up on YouTube! It occured to me while crawling around in the road, that I could be a little too old to take up this hobby! I told my wife this would have made A GREAT OBITUARY, "75 year old man run over by concrete truck after falling out of hot rod!"

Ha, today I was visiting my hangar area with my 56 Chev Bel Air and thinking I should may be sell it since I have not been driving it. In my early street hot rod days in the mid 60s I had a 2 door post with a warmed up 327, muncie 2.54 low 4 speed and 3.70 positrac that pegged a 400HP dyno at a service shop. My Ole Green Shoebox was fun at the stoplights around Tulsa in the late 60s against the newer flashy stock factory stuff of the time.

Several years ago I ran across a 4 door, virtually stock except for the carb and air filter, even with steel wheels and a working AM radio, decent interior, 265ci motor with 6K since a good overhaul, 3sp with OD with no bondo that I can find, Only one little ding. It even has an add on AC, haha. I was thinking about redoing it to get back close to the olden days since it already has a 4.10 rear gear since it has the OD unit. Well, I never got around to doing that. I drove it around a little and enjoyed it, but life got busy and it has been parked a few years in my hangar. It would take a new battery and a carb clean out to get it back running. It is not a show car, would have to have better paint, but it is a good 20ft pizza getter. I always heard when you retire your life gets busier. Yep, that is true. Still on my list to do someday.

Coming from someone who knew Boyd. Not as BFF's or close... One is never too old for HOT RODS....

The hot rod shows on TV, it seams all the people that have these hot rods, are old, some even carry ther wheel, or power wheel chairs along to the shows. As expensive as this stuff is getting, I guess not many young people can afford it?

Boyd was building hot rods back long before they talked him into the stupid show lol... Kids these days arent being taught about hot rods these days. Fathers arent building rods as father son projects like we used to in years past. I'm looking for a project for myself and the 11 and 12 year olds ..... And I know that will be a battle at the start.

I agree, not only are many kids growing up without fathers, and good role models, REAL MEN that care about their own kids, but they are forced to look in all the wrong places to fill the need for HEROES, and ROLE MODELS! In a game reserve in Africa, they were haveng a serious problem when adolescent male elephants were getting off the reserve, and distorting neighbors property. The dominate male elephants in this heard had been killed by poachers, for their large tusk! They brought in two HUGE DOMONATE MALES and the problem was over the next day! Is this not the very same problem we are seeing all over this country?

Yeah maybe a Galaxy ….. lol that you can get in and out of easily and sleep in it should things continue to go south

In my youth I had a early 1963, square top, galaxy, 406 ci, with three two's and a four speed, among others. The best car I ever had for sleeping was a 1963 Sport Fury, 383 ci with a four speed. A local MD bought this car new and modified the bucket seats so they would lay completely back and form a queen size bed, I didn't use this for sleeping back then! Setting in the corner drooling is fast approaching, for us ALL!

I'm the same age as you and I also needed to do something bigger and slower than motor cycles and hot rods so I took up with 4 wheeling and off roading, been having a ball ever since but working on them is getting harder.
