In case you don’t know, Spartans are 6 volt, so I bought 5 6v 42ah batteries, put them in cheap plastic ammo cases, and wired in a cheap solar panel from Academy. I tested this set up on one camera to make sure it was going to work, and that camera has been running almost 2 years. The only problem I’ve had has been when two of my newest batteries crapped out during the excessive heat in July, and I took that opportunity to switch to Herd360 solar panels with lithium battery packs built in. I didn’t learn about the Herd360 panels until after I had my external batteries already set up, or I would’ve gone with them then.Retrieverman,
I’ve been using the Energizer Lithium AA batteries in Spypoint Cameras the last several years and this year I purchased a couple of the LIT-10 rechargeable batteries. Don’t know how long they will last yet but could you share a little more on your battery setup? The Lithium AA seemed to jump quite a bit over the last year.
I definitely recommend connecting all of your cell cams to a 12v power supply with solar charger of some kind.I know, but I don’t want to replace my batteries every two weeks lol. I may go get the battery pack and solar panel
Yep. Some of mine have proprietary connectors that need their own external solar battery, but others I've been able to build my own and buy 12v solar chargers. They seem to work fine if you can keep them charged when they're not out in the field, etc.I’ve been using Energizer lithium AA’s in Spartan cell cams since 2010, and since switching over to external batteries and solar panels last year, I figure it’s saving me $2000+/- per year on 5 cameras.
The Herd360 panels have ports for 6v, 9v, and 12v and come with proprietary cords for most if not all camera brands. I’m not “sold” on them yet, but the company definitely did its homework in developing them.Yep. I think they’re fairly reasonably priced tooThe Herd360 panels have ports for 6v, 9v, and 12v and come with proprietary cords for most if not all camera brands. I’m not “sold” on them yet, but the company definitely did its homework in developing them.
You should put in for the Oklahoma draw huntWe lost our elk camp in New Mexico to some big corporation in Denver that wanted to entertain clients a two years ago. My elk meat stash is getting really low.
