Don't they use bleach for traction? A buddy of mine was stuck, pulling a trailer, in a icy parking lot in CO. The waitress came out with a bottle of bleach and poured it on his tires, I think is what he told me, and he was able to drive out. I'll ask him.

Edit-yep, it was bleach.
