I do agree in theory... but I believe that it will be more of a general degradation of society when the dollar collapses or becomes sufficiently devalued to allow out-of-control inflation. I believe most of it will all collapse at once, rather than a single state or handful of states actively seceding from a(n ostensibly) functional central union.

Sad... but that's what I expect. Also hope it doesn't happen in my lifetime, or that of my son. :(

That is kind of what I expect too.

The supreme court also decided the right to keep and bear arms is an individual right but look where we are now. The constitution says "shall not be infringed" but that has no meaning now days. If it came to the point that enough states had reached the point to secede then I don't think they really give a damn what a dozen dead people or the imperial president had to say about it.

That isn't to say I think we are anywhere close to that yet, but if we ever get there an old supreme court decision isn't going to stop the revolution.

No, the Army will.

I think there will be a collapse but not like some folks here have discussed. Rather, the current feel-good types who promise benefits but have no viable way to sustain them will build an imploding system. I don't think there will be a U.S. collapse just the liberal welfare state system. The U.S. will survive - at least I hope it will because a world where the major international dominant powers are Russia and China alone will not be a pleasant place to live.

I agree with the idea that an economic collapse of some kind will happen before a civil war/revolution. And there won't be anyone around to bail out the US, it is simply too big not to fail. What happens at that point is hard to say.

When the welfare state collapses it will drag the rest of the country down with it. The liberals have it spread all throughout the country and economy.

Is this really a news worthy item? That States cannot simply secede from the Union? This was settled over a century ago.
What was settled was that the states on the losing end of the Late Unpleasantness Between the States could not secede. If states decide to attempt secession again, no law or court decision will stop them; it will take force, just like it did a century and a half ago.
