Iconic!!! LOL whatever you say but to late, they were gone Yesterday. The way the grooves were on the rifle drove me to distraction while shooting. But just to ease your mind of me grinding the icons down, I had already ordered a replacement trigger guard from Numrich or ebay because this one was beat up pretty bad. Sanding off the grooves also did away with a couple of chips.
Grooves were hitting me in the middle of 2 of my fingers when getting a grip to shoot, don't know who's hand they used to make the mold but they must have had really small hands.

Shooting this rifle with a rest for the front this rifle is great. Still need to take my sand bags to really get a feel for the accuracy. the way I have been shooting i can get a 1/2-3/4inch 3 shot group pretty regularly. Have to say that this was a well spent $100 for the rifle.

I have a Western Field as well,,,
Not the same Mossberg model as your rifle,,,
But mine shoots extremely well just like yours does.

Mine is a Western Field 815,,,
That means it is a Mossberg 320.

I even paid the same price ($100.00) as you did.

I found an older 4X scope that is of the same approximate vintage for $20.00,,,
The cantilever scope mounts set me back about $45.00,,,
But they allowed me to get the proper eye relief.

I'm using old Mil-Surp Remington LRN ammo,,,
I can hit a 1" circle every time at 50 yards,,,
That's off of a bench and rest of course.

All in all, only $165.00 for the complete rig.

Good on you for "saving" a good vintage rifle from the scrap pile,,,
These old gals still have a lot of fine life left in them.

.

I have the same model I traded a brick of .22 for a couple of years ago for my 5 year old. Another $120 or so to get some decent sights on it and it is a tack driver as well.
