He probably is an idiot, but the Dems backing him is fact and then just a few days after winning the primary he says something like that just has to make you wonder. It would also not be the first time either party pulled something like that.
I really think the Dems backed him because they knew he would cut his party's own throat. I don't think Akin was a conspirator, I think the competition just knew he was that foolish. It's like Survivor - Show Me State. Remember, this is the state that voted a dead guy into the Senate to keep Ashcroft from getting another term.
He was blackmailed. The Liberals told him that if he didn't bite the bullet and go along with this spiel, they'd spill the beans on all the crazy scientifically impossible things Republicans believe; like creationism, absence of climate change, unlimited oil reserves within our borders, futility of vaccines, fracking being complete safe for groundwater...

You forgot the oil reserves. While not unlimited there is a heck of a lot more then the libs will admit to. Enough to last for a long, long time.
I tend to think the conspiracy theorists are those mindlessly believing that polluting the atmosphere and groundwater are perfectly safe. If you think it sounds reasonable to keep piping all the **** into the earth and sky, well by all means just keep it up and we'll see how it all works out. But I'm thinkin' it won't end too well.
I agree it is exaggerated on both sides of the spectrum by the parties. But I hope you saw the sarcasm in my original post.
