Well, my mother was an artist and she definitely didn't like the state funding the arts. I suppose it would be OK if it was funding only in the schools.

However, if there is enough sales of art in Oklahoma to provide $29 million dollars of TAX revenue, why should the state be funding any other form of art subsidy? It would take a lot of art sales to generate that much in taxes. If there is that much being sold, why can't the artists operate like any other business? If one's product is crappy and can't sell, why should the state help one to create more crap?

I also don't like the fact that the state mandated at one time that when building any new state buildings they had to spend a certain percentage for art at those buildings. How many tax-payer dollars have been spent to have artwork that looks like used plow disks?

Are the Arts part of the core function of government?

Kill all the arts in Oklahoma or just force the Oklahoma Arts Council to support itself? Not the same thing right? Where is the data to show that eliminating the $4M the state gives to the OAC will result in the death of art in Oklahoma?

Will not private citizen's, groups, and universities be able to step up and fill the gap? Certainly the over one billion dollar endowment of OU could be used to further the arts, if we deem the arts worthy right?

My problem is that they cut art funding but they won't pay for their own plane tickets, meals or transportation. They won't cut other BS funding, but they cut funding that goes directly towards arts education. That 29 million in art revenue has nothing to do with the fund, the fund is mainly for art education. I want art back in school as a daily class. I want gym back as a daily class. One of the main functions of the government is education, fund it the way it should be. Schools have to have several fundraisers each year just to keep the lights on. That is BS. Instead of paying for illegal immigrants and health care, fund the god damn school system the way it should be.

Does it go directly to art education? Sounds like it goes to OCAC and then goes through some steps to become art education. That's not direct at all.
