They've been cutting "arts" for generations. This is just another generational "lets cut the arts" cycle.

It only makes sense to cut arts during hard economic times. It should be replaced with old fashioned dodgeball, using old volleyballs and basket balls.

Then when times get better we can replace dodgeball with Band, music and pottery. And the cycle continues.

Art didn't create the XD, etc. Engineers that understood physics, math, and metalurgy built those guns.

You're right dennis. But there are guns that are definitely works of art. It takes an engineer's mind to design the pieces and an artist to make the design come to life. The two go hand-in-hand.

I went to church with Cockroft and his family. They were homeschooled as well. There's something to be said for making cuts for the budget's sake, however, if you cut out 4 million that brings in 29 million (supposedly), that has now worsened your budget shortfall. Even being homeschooled, that's some basic math that doesn't add up. Let's hack away at the budget, but don't kill off something which provides a return rate of 600%...

But how much would that money have produced for its owners if it had not been seized by the state and spent on arts? It is likely that it would have produced an even greater return... but we will never know. This is the fallacious argument always raised in defense of subsidies. It never takes into account what would have happened if the resources were allocated to the things the owners thought were the most efficient uses, instead of the bureaucrats' pet projects; the investments, goods, structures, and business ventures that were never allowed to exist because of government intervention.

Speaking of gov't schools, Frederic Bastiat's treatise "What is Seen and What is Not Seen" should be required reading as long as we are going to have such institutions.

And plus I doubt those numbers are correct about how many dollars would be lost, as they are basing their projections on the entire Oklahoma art industry ceasing to be; which is not even close to what will happen if subsidies are ended.
