What is your favorite rifle caliber?

Not counting .22’s, the only rifles I have ever shot were my dad’s 30-06 and .243 while I was growing up. Other than those two guns, I really don’t have much of an opinion on rifles or cartridge size, but I am curious about them. So I am wondering what your favorite rifle calibers are (along with favorite make/model of rifle if you would like to add that) and why?

As of late I'm really enjoying my 45-70's.
Huge potential for various velocities from confortable to bone crushing.
Pretty much whatever it hit stops.
I'm also playing a bit with 444, 450, & 500 in rifles now too.

I really like .243, it's my go to hunting caliber in this state as well as some long range plinking... I just wish barrel life were longer. .270 would be my favorite caliber as it would put down absolutely anything on this continent, and the b/c is outstanding.

308 Winchester. It is an all around workhorse. Jack of all trades and master of none.

What kind of 45-70 do you have? I'm a sass shooter and wanting to get one for long range lever gun side matches.

1. most shot .223 either DPMS or Rem 700
2. 6.5x55 Easy shooting and will take most game animals in the lower 48. Capable of taking the big bruins, but I would feel more comfortable with punching a bigger a hole in them before they got a chance to put some holes in me. Sweet little Swedish Mauser, sporterized, with 6x20 scope, loaded weighs just 6 lbs. Wife to shoot it, too.
Also, have / shoot rifles in 30-06, 7mmRemMag, 7x57, .44Mag. Considering SKS 7.62x39 or DPMS .308.
Think a Ruger #1 in .260Rem would be an awesome shooter.

According to some members, 270 is the worst round ever, right next to 25 acp.
However, I think 308 is the worst cartridge ever <sarcasm>

But seriously, 243 is pretty cool, as is 7x57 and 8x57. 270 is what I have, but wouldn't mind a 308, 30-06, or 300 win mag or even 25-06.

No love for shooting pistol calibers from rifles? I've been getting a bit of a kick (no pun intended) lately from shooting .45 Colt from a Rossi '92.

Oh - and yeah, I like .308 too - if I could only have one rifle caliber, that would (probably) be the one.

7.62x54r hands down. I love my AR and my AK but I could shoot my Mosin all day long.
