I think the 6.5 Creedmoor is an excellent choice. And even better if you reload. I have worked up loads in 4 different ones for friends and family. they push the 140 gr. bullets at around 3000fps. and that says a lot for a 140 gr Berger with a .612 BC. there are a ton of guys shooting them in the long range tactical matches and they are all holding their own. I shoot the 6.5x47 Lapua because I like the Lapua brass better and you get around 15 reloads out of it if you don't push it to the max. as far as what the OP said about you should get a .308 I would disagree. You almost never see a .308 in the Long range matches that I have been to and when you do see them they are almost always at the back of the pack. the 6.5 is a great wind cheater. im not saying its more accurate but if your not shooting weekly or more its hard to be an excellent wind reader. and when your talking about shooting 700 to 1000 yards the 6.5 is going to make your life much easier. I would also recommend getting it in a good bolt gun. it will maximize your ability to put the round in the right place and get the speed your after. well at least that's my opinion.... Hope this helps you.

Thank you, Well said... The 6.5 has been a sleeper round in the hunting community for sometime now. The 120 or 130gr round will blow your mind on how good it works on deer.

I like the 6mm also. that's a great long range and hunting bullet. I have a friend that shoots the 115gr Berger VLDs in a 6x47 lapua and that is a flat shootin killer.

A great starter model in the 6.5 is a savage preditor it comes with a detachable magazine and you can pick one up for a pretty low price. And it should be a good 1000 yard rifle out of the box.

Someone is really trying to sell 260rem ....
139 scenars are .578 not .615
45.0 of H4831 will get you only about 2650fps not 2800+
Which drops the energy at 1000 down to around 600

On the other hand there are quite a few "real" loads for 7RM and 300SAUM that will punch-out 1000ft/lb+ at 1k.

Nope, and the info was from GM 2007, not I, as you seem to feel. So write them on their omissions.

Funny - you have no idea on barrel length and such that could influence your numbers above.

The info was for the folks pondering which route to go, a comparison of sorts. I could care less what persons ultimately do, but try to give food for thought when they ask for opinions.

I like the .260REM as well and want to re-barrel from a .308WIN for it but you're kind of discounting the article yourself.

You say "I dont know barrel lengths", well what kind of relevant comparison is it then when you are talking energy and velocity at distance? If they were all shot out of different barrel lengths then the whole thing is useless anyway IMO.
