I saw a full size Chevy van in Bethany years ago that had a window unit AC redneck engineered into a window.
In my 55 ford custom line, I used a Coleman lantern in a galvanized minnow bucket with foil balls around it to keep the car warm at the drive-in theater when the heater core developed a leak......there were a few other "things" that kept it "warm" in there.A million years ago when the wife and I were merely kids we shared an old ford pickup that had a faulty defroster. We couldn’t afford to get it fixed. I found a small d.c. heater I jerry-rigged to keep the windshield clear enough to get home on cold nights without having to wait on the heater to finally clear it.
All I know is that when SHTF, I want a redneck in my squad.
I remember how well the defrosters on the VWs worked. I would scrape the window on the inside pretty often. A VW camper van I had came with the gasoline heater. The air that put out would almost burn your hand. I always said the windshield had to have been made by Corning Ware to keep from cracking.Yes you would freeze sitting still.
