No doubt. The Toyota FR-S is somewhat interesting, but it lacks too much to make it appealing to me. I would seriously DD an MX-5 hardtop if I could convince myself a ******* 2-seater roadster was practical for my uses. Anybody who makes a trite chick car joke about a Miata knows **** about crap, namely driving.
I've about 99.9% decided my next DD is going to be a Legacy GT. I think they would be a great combo between awesome fun a practicality. Sheet, they even quit making them in a manual this year. Pathetic. You guys are making me want one NOW. I'm in the process of trying to move and can't do it for a while.
What a balless society we've become as Americans. Every car company should make a cheap, no-frills car that is actually fun to drive. The few that still do are quickly pussifying them. You won't be able to buy *anything* with three pedals and a blue-collar income in 10 years. Lame.
GTG, I still have faith in Toyoda. I've got 150K on my second gen 4WD Taco and I've done things to that poor truck that a traveling businessman wouldn't do to a Thai hooker. Ask anyone who's been down a forest road with me; I've shocked a few people who didn't realize how far 33's and willpower can get you.
Still solid as a rock and 0 problems. It's decidedly more pussified than oh say, an FJ60 or a Hilux, tho. And it is about as boring to drive as a vehicle gets (on the road).

In the spring, I bought my wife a 2012 Camry LE Hybrid. She drives it like a normal car. It averages 40mpg pretty consistently. I drive a 2010 Camry LE 4cyl gas for my company car. I average 24-25mpg pretty consistently. I have driven it to Dallas and Illinois though and got 30mpg on the highway (hauling a$$). The hybrid was ~$5k more than the gas version. We've had it 7 months and it will roll 14k miles this week. At 24,000 miles per year, that's 600 gallons in the 40mpg hybrid vs 960 gallons in the gas version. At $3/gallon, it will take 5 years to break even. At $3.50/gallon, it will take 4 years. If we drive it more, it wil take less time. We are driving it to Florida next summer so I'm planning on about a 3.5- 4 year break even. The battery pack has an 8 year, 100k mile factory warranty with a life expectancy of 150k.
Have you looked into how much a battery maintenance issue could cost you after the warranty runs out? It won't take long to reach 100K. I've been curious about that aspect of these hybrids...flat out replacement has got to be expensive too.

Haha - I already had my midlife crisis car man. It was my 96 Chevy Impala SS (the last real car Chevy made - I'm curious about the new LTZ that non-LEOs will be able to buy pretty soon though).
That's funny right there!! The first time my wife drove the car and pulled into traffic, my son said "mom nail it, we are about to get run over", she says " I'm flooring it"! We were laughing for a while!
Don't know about the last 10 years, but my 1997 Camry V6 has 245k on it, and runs great. I get 24mpg, and it's actually reasonably fun to drive for a 15 year old family car.
