B/c our justice system is broke. Probably the same reason someone can appeal enough times to die of old age on death row. Heck criminals don't really even fear prison or death sentences anymore cause they know once in they can start to manipulate the system. I say bring back swift death sentences. We have alot more technology now days & if your red handed without a shadow of a doubt convicted of a crime worthy of death why waste millions a year in tax dollars. Go straight from the court room to the gallows. Far too many repeat criminals for murder, rape, kidnapping & other horrible crimes. Those people should never have the option to walk free again & also shouldn't have the freedom to live out their days on our tax dollars either.

Go look up how many wrongful convictions we still have.

Go look up Bob Macy, Joyce Gilchrest, and Mike Nifong.

Go read about Connick v. Thompson, 563 U.S. ___ (2011), in which the prosecutors admitted to withholding evidence that showed the defendant's innocence, evidence that was discovered just a month before his scheduled execution, and the Supreme Court held that the prosecutors were immune from any liability for their actions. http://scienceblogs.com/dispatches/2011/03/31/supreme-court-strengthens-pros/

That's why we have an appeals process.

That is also cases with reasonable doubt, which isn't what I was talking about. I'm talking about events with multiple witness on scene, video evidence, confession, ect. Cases in which there is absolutely no question if the person committed that crime. Those are the people who we should weed outta the system with a quickness. Those are the cases that are cut & dry on who did the crime. I'm all for people who have a questionable cases getting to appeal it, but some of these people sit & admit to the crime then later try to appeal it on some BS reasons & it gets tied up in the system for years upon years.

for instance the case from I believe over on the east coast where the 2 men went in I believe it was a doctors house & tried to beat him to death then raped his daughters/wife & killed them all while finishing it off by setting the house on fire. They caught those scumbags & they fully admitted to it in detail & evidence backed it up. there was no question they were guilty. those are the ones who should go straight from the verdict being read to the gallows. Why should we spend ignorant amounts of money to house & supposedly "rehabilitate" those individuals when the repeat offense rate is through the roof. Its apparent the whole "teach them a lesson" thing only works for a very small percentage of inmates, the rest only become better criminals while jailed & repeat or increase their crimes once released. Yet the majority of people who could vote to fix this tend to ignore it like its not happening.

Go look up how many wrongful convictions we still have.

Over 300 wrongfully convicted people have been exonerated since 1992. 18 of them were on Death Row. While I don't much care for the idea of keeping someone like the Aurora shooter alive in prison for the rest of his life, the risk of executing another wrongfully convicted person outweigh the distastefulness of keeping animals alive.
