Why does the media portray that owning firearms make you a bad person?

Don't you just hate it when the news comes on about a "suspect" was taken into custody for something. And the last sentence is always "firearms was also found at the location". They make it sound as if just because the person owned firearms, they are automatically guilty.

It's not just the media. Most of John Q. Public thinks that guns are scary and only bad people use them. There's an unpleasant stigma that's automatically associated with guns and people who own them by many people. I work in a very anti-gun environment with gunbuster signs on all the doors. I've heard some really ridiculous anti-gun comments from my co-workers. My school was the same way, I heard some of the most ignorant comments I could possibly imagine regarding guns and carrying them I from professors in my major. I like to be liked and not create unnecessary hardship for myself though, so I've kept my mouth shut rather than correct the idiocy or even play the devil's advocate. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Nobody wants to be outted as one of "those" weirdos, so in a way, the mindset's self-perpetuation.

And then there is the tag team attack:

First we get a rant from the guy who righteously attacks firearms and those who own them. Later someone says they hunt and fish and have been around guns all their life, but.... NO ONE needs _____________ (handguns, high capacity magazines, black rifles etc) because they are only for killing people!

Here is one comeback:
"Do you own a fire extinguisher?"
If "Yes", then ask, "Why? Are you some kind of fire nut? Don't you know the fire department is trained to fight fires?" And let them figure it out from there.

yea my family is extremely anti-gun. I bought two handguns on my birthday and my mom found out. She called me and she gave me the speech about "my life is going down the wrong path and she is not sure if I lost my mind or not..."

So clearly in my situation you can see the effect of guns on the psyche of anti-gunnie america.
