I know it's a bit off the main thought behind the thread but I recently picked up my old mini 30 and took it out with iron sights and did some shooting. I know there are many that hate the 30 but I gotta say, I have never had an issue. Eats anything I feed it and is just a super fun gun to shoot.

I shoot my Mini-30 a bunch. Never had a failure to feed w/Ruger mags. Never had a failure to eject.
I did have some failure to fire w/Russian ammo till I put in a stronger hammer spring. The strut only helps with extended strings as the barrel heats.

1mathom1, where did you get a stronger hammer spring? My Mini 30 shoots Chinese, European, and US ammo just fine but does not like to reliably pop the the Russian primers.

I actually want to find a 762x39 bolt gun. It just needs to be able to shoot steel case reliably.

It is the Wolff spring. I got if through Midway.

If you own a Mini, you need to know about Accuracy International in CO. They have a TON of good stuff.
