It will take me a LONG time before I will be able to outshoot my Benelli M1. It runs flawlessly if I remember to give it a good cleaning now and then.

Yes Jesse...profesional DRY CLEANERS...the rest is up to you!

Technetium...you are right mag fed is the future of open and if I have any say the direction standard will go as well. I don't think the Saiga/Molot is the answer, but it is definitely the right idea. KurtM

I think the "cleaning" mentioned is brushing the gravel dust off from stage 3 at High Plains... lol... Mitch and I were discussing the cleaning of Benelli shotguns yesterday and how quick and easy it is because they just dont seem to "dirty" up like anything else we shoot. Just wipe them down and lube them back up, you're good to go...

Thanks for the patient responses regarding Saigas and Open Division shooting - I wasn't aware the Saigas got booted up into the big-money classes ;)

So the Benelli M1/M2 gets most of the accolades for 3-gun shooting. What about the M4 with a titanium 2-round mag extender (6+1) - how does that stack up against its brethren for those competitions? My guess is the mag capacity still isn't up to snuff; and the pistol grip isn't going to be popular, but I'm really not sure why...

Kurt can elaborate on why he doesn't like the pistol grip. Taran Butler uses an M1/2 with a pistol grip and he seems to win ALOT of matches.

The big difference with the Benelli M4 is that it has a gas pistol that cycles the action whereas the M1/2 are inertia driven meaning that there is a spring in the bolt that gets compressed when the round is fired and that spring forces the bolt backwards to cycle the action. The inertial driven system runs more reliably because there are no gas ports to get plugged up. This is also why the Benelli is more reliable that the FN. This is why the M1/2 has been so popular with duck hunters. It can sit in the cold covered in freezing rain, mud, dirt, etc and it runs once the first round goes bang. Plus its about $400 cheaper than an M4. I am sure I missed a little on that description and Kurt will help me out again.:thumbup3:
