I have an old marlin model 60 that I want to get the barrel threaded with 1/2x28 threads. Called sportsworld and they wanted $100 to do it. Anyone know of someone who could do it cheaper? I haven't had anything done like this before but $100 seems high.

You can bring it to me and I will thread the barrel for $100 and give you a free thread protector
I do gunsmith work for "other gun stores" but I am not allowed to tell you who.

Seems like a lot until you try to do it yourself and miss it by a thousanths of an inch, then watch your silencer get blown to pieces.

Yes! Take it to someone who is good. No one who is any good is going to do it for $50 so maybe you could try to save $20-25 by taking it to "some guy". Take it to Honeybee or you could use Curtis at S&H in Owasso.

Sounds like that might be the general cost. I know this might sound bad but I really don't need it done precisely because I won't be shooting ammo out of it. Its hard to explain but I'll be using it to attach an item that will use the power of .22 blanks to launch things out of it. Similar to the golf ball launcher that you can buy for the ar15 but used for something else. This is a beat up gun so it will just be used as a host for this launcher. I kind of hate to spend $100 to thread a gun I payed $50 for.

It is the going rate, doesn't matter what you are going to use it for, the lathe to thread it on costs big bucks, the tooling costs big bucks, there are supplies and power, and the person's hour of time is worth alot as well.
