Depends on the situation/circumstances. Not one weapon is great at everything.

Battle Rifle: AR/AK
Pistol: Glock 19
Shotgun: Remington 870
Long range: Remington 700
Small Game: Ruger 10/22

If I HAD to choose 1 and only 1, it would be my AR.

Op should have limited it to one gun.
My list for long range, short range, medium range, SD, shotgun, sd/hunting, big game, medium game, wing shots, is much to big of a list to put up or carry while humping through the bush.

My favorite ONE gun if ever had to hit the bushes and live off the land would be a over/under .223-12 gauge combo, iron sights. There is nothing on this planet, save an elephant or water buff that won't secumb to a 12 ga high velocity slug.

I agree 100%, except if I had to pick only 1, it would be the AK/SKS.

Like I 'xplained it to my wife, many, many m any times. Firearms and fishing equipment are very specific and limited in their purpose and use. I MUST buy this (insert arm or fishing rod/reel here) to hunt / fish for (insert intended game).

That being said ................ and I know I'm preaching at the choir, M4, 870 12ga, and 1911 would pretty much cover my SHTF needs. Throw in Marlin Lever .22Mag and call it done. Just 1 ..... ??????????? .......... have to be the M4.

Has anyone had any experience with the conversion kits for the ARs would something like that be worth it in a situation like this to have 2 calibers in one gun with only a small amount of stuff to carry for the second caliber? I like the 22 because of the weight of ammo but it just does not have the punch needed IMO
