Holy crap, I wish people had to pay for their own kids. I'm not a socialist. When I was in school, there was a point to the story of the ant and the grasshopper. Now it seems the ant has to carry the grasshopper.

Just for clarification, did you attend public, private, or homeschool?

I am going to be polite, your idea is ignorant. The first issue is not enough subs, really not even close to enough subs, if 16 percent of our district walks, it would take all subs, all teachers that could cover a class, administrators in classrooms, and you would still have classrooms without teachers.
By the way, your welcome for trying to help our state by being an educator, it makes me feel good that I am helping people like you.
You are not helping Jack. Anyone who walks off a job to benefit themselves at the cost of the children and false pretenses, a job they were free to pick, and were not forced to take do not deserve it. They are expendable and need to be replaced.

When ALL and I mean ALL of the previous taxes that were levied UNDER FALSE PRETENSES to fund our failure of public education are used as they were slated when voted on then we can start talking. No one more fecking dime. This robing Peter to pay Paul BS needs to end

I don't mind taxes long as there are results. They are necessary but our state is a poor state. So what the heck, let's raise taxes. Like that ever works. What do you call doing something over and over expecting a different outcome? Insanity, socialism or Liberalism?

America spends more than any other country. Several countries combined. Yet public education here in the good ol USA ranks 17th in the world. Throwing more money at 17th or our state does not seem to be the answer. What are the other countries doing that we are not and spending far less? Maybe we should hire teachers from some of these other countries. The ones we have now are failing the children and the country.

More money does not equate to caring. If the teachers want more money they need to get some side jobs. Just like firefighters, police or other state workers do. Sort of like how anybody else that wants more money does. Most people just don't hold hostages. Plain and simple. Quit holding the children hostage and pretending that it is about the kiddies and not them

Seadog, I agree that professionalism cannot be bought, its a personal characteristic considered a virtue. However, the term Professional does not require those so entitled to suffer abuse and neglect indefinitely in return for the honor of this title.

The issue of Teachers Compensation in Oklahoma is not new and relates to the following grievances: very low salaries (Low Teacher Compensation) paid to Oklahoma Teachers who are required to meet the same qualifications and teaching standards as other regions; equivalent costs paid to meet required qualifications by Oklahoma Teachers as paid by their peers in regions with adequate compensation; long standing failure of the State to address the issue of Low Teacher Compensation; refusal of State Government to address the grievances of Teachers who have repeatedly pleaded for relief; repeated salary increases authorized by State Government for School Administration including non-professional Office Staff during the years that teachers were being ignored.

The poor performance of US Students (as compared to other Industrialized Nations) is not due to failure at the Teacher/Student Level but rather to the Educational Content and Goals, Teaching and Testing Methods, Rules for Student Discipline, and Concessions to Special Interest Groups all of which come down to Teachers through from State Boards of Education that are influenced by accepted Academic and Sociological Ideologues and Leaders of our time. The fault is not with how well our Teachers perform, but with the content, goals and methods with which they are forced to comply.

I hate the concept of strikes, however I support this action. This is much more than teacher salaries. This is a very visible statement of the priorities of our state. This is a key factor when companies consider locating in Oklahoma. The same for individuals considering positions in our state. Over the years, I had the experiences of interviewing many people for management and executive positions in our company. I cannot remember any of them not asking about the school systems on the cities they could possibly be relocating into.

So stop calling teachers names, and consider the bigger picture! We have no problem thinking that the banning of bump stocks is another slide on the slippery slope. The same situation exists with OUR public education system.

Chances are you and your parents didn’t/don’t pay enough yearly in education taxes to pay the cost for a single student. Therefore, it’s more likely than not that multple people without kids picked up your parents slack and paid the remainder of your educational costs.
But I do agree that one shouldn't have to pay taxes for services they don't utilize. I have never once called the police but yet I'm expected to pay for them? Freaking outrageous!
