12 students injured in dog attack at OKC school

I wasn't there, and I doubt any other commenters were either, but I'm not sure a gun would have been the best solution here. A dog attack is a fast-moving thing, and--teeth being a melee weapon, not a standoff weapon--necessarily occurs in very close proximity to the victim. Or a dozen victims.

How many here would say they're absolutely comfortable with "someone else's" marksmanship to be able to hit a dog under those circumstances and not hit a kid accidentally? Oh, and don't forget that your defensive ammo is designed to achieve a certain degree of penetration against a human, and a dog--even a pit bull--is going to be smaller, so you have to not only be accurate, but guarantee no pass-through.

Who wants to be the one explaining to the kid's parents how he got that bullet wound?

The 3 moa dot on my MK IV makes acquisition fast and easy and Tandemcross has a high and low rig for the set up.. If it wasn't for the macho low lives in the world the dog breed would have never seen the spotlight it does.. I had a wonderful Staff that looked like Petey when I was a kid.. Died of old age and never bit a soul..

Obviously, the general sentiment on a gun board would be reaching for a gun, but tackling a dog is porbably the best tactic in a crowded space like that.

You can submit even the toughest pupper by putting your hand in his mouth, wrapping his own jowls in with it. Sure, you get bit, but the harder they bite you, they bite themselves, and attack mode becomes defense mode. They're more likely to cut free and flee.

Also, pulling the lower jaw down towards the chest will, like horses, make them buck, but out of necessity for survival. Change the mindset, change the situation.

Then again, I've never been above shooting someones dog. Ask the neighbor. But I don't think it would be appropriate in this situation.

I've always been able to take the fight out of even the stoutest, meanest dog I've met (unneutered male Newfoundland) with a kick like I was drop-kicking the mother****er. I was 12. Still, I can freely admit I was raised in an atypical environment and most kids' instinct is to try and run away.

I still maintain this dog was a puppy looking to play and was most likely nipping, not trying to take a mouthful of meat outta anyone. People be worthless shits, but they are worthless shits at the top of the food chain, so ... there ya have it.

I agree with you this. First off, was it a PBT? Too many times people (even cops) get them mixed up with other bully breeds. Second thing, if that dog was attacking there would be much worse than "superficial" wounds, nor do I believe the teacher would have been able to tackle and hold him if he was a PBT and in attack mode. Most PBT's I meet in my job are nothing but 100+ lb lap dogs. I have a greater fear of the smaller breeds.
