Well, when your two choices are to shoot up wild hoodlums that are threatening your way of life or have your family slaughtered, dropping hellfires on the people you're told are the enemy seems like a no brainer.

Youd be surprised. I bet the government has an army waiting in the shadows. Chinese, Mexicans, mercenaries...you name it. One day these groups will raise arms and cause all kinds of chaos. The Government will put them down and gun totin people like us will be "collateral damage".

Soldiers are trained to OBEY orders. They take an oath swearing to obey the orders of those lawfully appointed above them.
It takes a very special person to disobey an order that may or may not be lawful - especially in a heat of the moment situation.
Although US soldiers are trained and regularly encouraged to show initiative, unless things have changed greatly since the 70's and 80's they get a most rudimentary level of training that tells them they do have the right to disobey an unlawful order. That training is accompanied by a very strongly worded caveat that they will be court martialed after the fact and that they had best chosen wisely.
Your typical HS graduate enlisted probably won't question an order to fire on those his superiors have characterized as rebel terrorists bent on destroying his country, killing his family and raping his sister. They'll shoot you in a heartbeat and smile while they're doing it.
Don't ever doubt that a trained soldier surrounded by his fellows won't fire on you if given the order.

Lots of y'all are gonna get irate and shout - I was enlisted and I wouldn't fire on my fellow Americans. And I'd guess most of you probably wouldn't. But OSA members aren't your typical enlisted type. Gun guys that in most cases are pro freedom, educated better than the general public and in many cases professional tradesmen, engineers, lawyers, doctors, business owners and business professionals. Hell! If the fecal matter ever did hit the fan for real I'd bet a goodly number of you (though most won't admit it in public - good thinking there) would be on the side against the government.
