I will do you one better. I bought a Marlin 3030 from Bass Pro in August. It was purchased for my son to use for youth deer season. I got it home and found it had a crack in the butt stock. Took it back to them and they said the would ship to Sports World in Tulsa to have a new stock put on it. No problem I think to myself as they said it would 4-6 weeks. I still don't have it back. The last 2 times I called they said they were still waiting on replacement parts from Marlin. I actually went to the store on Saturday and the gun rep wasn't working so they took my name and number and said would call me right back with an update. As of today I haven't heard from them. I'm very disappointed with this experience.

I would be up there getting my money back. That is ridiculous. I know someone here will say they can't do nothing, but yes they can. They call marlin and say OUR customer has been waiting on this for 4 months and WE are giving him another one or his money back and YOUR taking the rifle back. I work at a large retail store and if my customer has to wait one month on a part, I give them a new one and tell GE or Whirlpool they ARE taking the old one back and they DO!
If you used a credit card to make the purchase, call them and tell them you want to dispute that purchase and they will have your money back in less than a week.

They have offered to give me my money back but I got it on a special deal and can't replace it for what I paid for it. They WILL NOT exchange for another one. I've asked several times. I sent an email to customer service via their website. Will give it a day or so to see if it gets any traction. At this point I'm not in a hurry but the experience has really soured me on bass pro. I did make the purchase with a cc and may use that if necessary.

Many stores wont accept returns on firearms even if they are not right from the manufacturer. Why IDK. What I do know is that most stores still want a happy customer even with the policy they have in place. What I would suggest in this kind of situation is ask that the retailer pay for the shipping costs to the manufacturer. They are more than likely happy to cover that to keep a customer and they don't have to break any company policy, supposing they could anyway.

Ok, I gotcha. Must have been a hell of a deal!

Most of the kids who work at the gun counter at the Edmond location are A$$ wipes. There's one tall guy (ex-miltary) who is worth dealing with. But the rest suffer from thinking they know more than they do... manager though has been helpful (gave me a good deal with a price-match, though it isn't policy).

My advice....

Get a refund and buy an older Marlin 30-30. The newer "Marlingtons" are junk anyway compared to the older Marlins.

A nice older Marlin 336 can be had for around $350.

Find one that has JM stamped on the barrel, and you will have a real Marlin that is much better quality.

In the long run, you'll be glad you did.

My brother, who was living in Stillwater at the time, called the Academy in Tulsa looking for a particular shotgun. They told him they had a couple in stock, so he drove to Tulsa to get one. When he got there, the guy at the gun counter said they hadn't had any in stock in a couple of weeks........needless to say, my brother was ticked.
