Action Alert: HJR1009 In Trouble

HJR1009, OK2A-Action's proposed amendment to the Oklahoma Constitution, is perhaps the most important gun-rights bill to come before the Legislature in the history of the state. It is the foundation of the effort to restore gun rights in Oklahoma. The measure will correct the poor wording of Article 2, Section 26 of our state's constitution and addresses damaging case law that has undermined our right to keep and bear arms in Oklahoma (to read more about HJR1009, visit this page). However, three Senators are working to keep HJR1009 from even being voted on by the full Senate. Please call or email them and ask them to stop trying to block HJR1009 from coming to a vote of the full Senate.

Senator Corey Brooks:

405-521-5522

Senator David Holt:

405-521-5636

[email protected]

Senator Eddie Fields:

405-521-5581

[email protected]

Note:

  • Senator Holt has a history of working quietly behind the scenes in opposition to gun bills.
  • Senator Fields has already voted against HJR1009 in committee.

OU is whining because they want strong language inserted
A) granting exemption to educations isntitutions and
B) they prefer that strict scrutiny be removed from the language...so that judges can easily allow numerous violations of a State Constitutional right (should this amendment be passed)

Has the Thunder seen a drop off in business from open carry and shall issue? I don't thin it made any difference at all in terms of business

What are the specific issues that Senators Fields, Holt, and Brooks have?

Is it related to the failed attempts to change the language of the proposed amendment (deleting "strict scrutiny" and adding certain exemptions)?

The Tulsa World article combines HJR1009 and HB3098. It looks like senators are trying to say the same. Regardless, the argument that the NBA or Chesapeake Arena will not have control of carry policy on their property or at their events is a lie, and they know it. Fear mongering and/or ignorance on the part of the senators. I searched and failed to find a copy of an email that I read earlier today from one of the three saying that the lobbyist (ok2a) are lying and that the Thunder would leave OKC if the bill and resolution pass. More likely in the pocket of the Chamber and Higher Ed.
