Kids are taught different these days,
With the video games, TV shows, movies, and comics these days.
Kids are almost training to kill rather than to get along with others.

That is why my father wore out his razer strop on me when I was a little one,
and why I wore out my sons back side.
I turned out decent, and my son is well on his way.

There are reasons we train, but we train for good things not bad things.

I can sum it up pretty quickly.. X-Box, PlayStation and absentee parents. I remember spending time in the living room getting whooped up on playing PlayStation boxing with my sons. Now kids spend the day shooting cops and innocent bystanders. When you allow your kids to become desensitized playing these disgusting games, you get kids who bring knives to a fist fight. We can only hope another LEO is around when this worthless POS decides to try again.

This. The games and movies parents allow children to play and watch these days is nuts. I believe it desensitizes the kids to violence. My oldest kid is 18 the youngest 21 months, none of them are allowed to play or watch some of the crap out there.

And to the OP, thank you for your service.

I've been in your position brother. It's a tough call. Fortunately, you made a right choice and hopefully, everybody can look at this as how you saved that kid's life today instead of some that will talk trash about how the bad policeman stuck a gun in that poor boy's face.

Bastards! :finger:

If they could only do our job for a day or so, they would see that it's not all that it's cracked up to be.

Like I said...I've been where you are. Expect some trash talk from some, but hold your head high and know deep in your heart, that even if you woulda shot the kid, it would have been the only choice you could have made. You did well today. Put it behind you and don't dwell on it too much. The coulda, woulda, shouldas will eat you alive.

If you need to vent some more, shoot me a PM. :comfort:

I played violent video games growing up. I still do. I'm not trying to throw a fireball at people. Im not trying to hurt people. People like to blame it on everything else but bad parenting.

It does not help. Parenting is number one, but letting children watch/play this stuff is wrong. I'm not saying 100% will end up crazy killers, but if a parent lets a kid watch violent movies or play the games its wrong. Watching a movie like Saw should be shocking, even to an adult, a child should never see that crap. I guess it's a generation thing, I must be getting old.

I'm with ya...to an extent.

I kinda like "violent" video games, but only ones that deal with like nazis, zombies and such. I don't watch slasher movies like Saw and I don't allow my kids to either. Hell, even the latest Batman movies are a little "dark" to me. We do enjoy a nice zombie flick from time to time however. But we usually spend more time laughing than being scared. Stupid zombies. :rolleyes2

But yeah, I think kids are subjected to too much violence nowadays and yes, I blame that on parents letting their kids partake in these violent games and movies.

I agree to a point as well. There are many factors that go into what a person does, with personal choice being number one. It's kinda like the kid who went behind the shed to smoke a cigarette or sneak a sip of pop's whiskey. The vast majority will dislike the taste or effects, but a few will become alcoholics or addicted to cigarettes. Granted life is "choice driven" but it doesn't help introducing crap into one's life.
