I only wear Carhartt T shirts. Not for the label, but the heft of the material. They are more substantial than your average T. And I only wear Key overalls. Again, they are a little heavier than other brands and just last longer. I do not support professional sport teams anymore.
Some branding is unavoidable, and unobjectionable, such as what you mention, or the Marlin bullseye on stock to differentiate them from other rifles on the dealer rack, or watch face markings...
I took the OP to mean the giant advertisements for brands and assorted teams supported by brands.
As for advertising for any pop icon, be it a sports team, band, whatever, I care about them just as much as they care about me.

And as for overalls, I'm from the South, and them's overhauls, boy.

I get FREE T shirts from places I buy stuff at but my friends own those places.
Willhoite camshafts.. Links Lawn equipment gives me Stihl shirts.
Carter Engines .. His wife gave me and Willhoit free shirt one day.

I wear them.
I like free shirts.
I have not bought a T shirt in maybe 10 or more years and I wear them out welding or working in them.
