My Amana was installed 32 years ago. A 4 ton downstairs and a 2 ton upstairs. Both condensers still running. Both evaporators replaced around 20 years of age. I was licensed back then and installed them.
I used 955 solder and no problem. This was back when the Amish still had some interest of some kind in the name. Thinking of replacing them before they go entirely to the A2L refrigerant. The A2L is another thing I'd need to get up to speed on. I'm sure the industry will make A2L's non user friendly to the public.
Eff the Montreal Protocol.
edit: and when I replace them I will use #8 Silver Solder.

Al's one of my best friends and I worked there for several years , he has never been a carrier dealer. any licensed tech can work on carrier units with the exception of 18 seer and up and then you only have to go to a 1 day certification class for that. also Al sold out to Owens comfort systems this week and I don't know enough about them to endorse them
Ya just found this out. Scheduled for ALs to come out called the number on their website and the guy that showed up was from Owens comfort. Reading reviews they don’t have great ratings so guess can’t use ALs now
