What was bullet performance like at those distances with that bullet?
At 1,000 yds., the Hornady A-MAX bullet punches an entrance hole the size of a #2 pencil and the exit hole is between a golf ball and tennis ball in size. I also shoot the top point of the front shoulder...
Here is a picture of a reactive target that I shot at 1,000 yds. AFTER I just finished busting a couple of gallon milk jugs full of water at the same distance. In fact, when this critter came out and was shot, it was less than 4 feet from where I just shot the last jug at....

Man, I get hitting targets at long distance but animals are another story. 36 for 36 is hard for me to fathom. I mean, I've hunted a lot in my life and had animals do weird things or move when I shoot but your chances are even greater at 1000 yards. I wad a 5 time expert in the usmc and worked on the range for a little while and I never saw anyone close to that on targets including snipers. I guess it's just one of those things I'd have to see to believe, no offense to you but it's hard to wrap my mind around. Where were you a police sniper at? My grandpa was chief of police in vinita for 12 years. I'm sure he knew you.
Well, consider that in the time I started shooting deer at long range, I've had the cross hairs on well in excess of 600 deer throughout the years and having shot just 36 deer, is not really a lot of deer. We've had herds of 10 to 20+ deer in our shooting lanes that could not be shot because of winds, heat mirage, hazy conditions, deer not standing still, etc.. LOT'S of deer in Mississippi and a whole lot of opportunities...

George Hicks. He was a cop for around 30 years and COP for 12 until he passed away in 2010.
I knew Mr. George very well. I went to school with his boys and knew Mr. George when he joined the police department. He was also the first one to welcome me back home, after being gone for 30 years...
