Just when you think GOUT is painful. Getting in in a knee is the WORST pain I can imagen. And I have had flare ups in toes. ankles , knees , Hips, elbows , wrists , fingers ,neck ......... Well I guess every joint. Antiinfams will clear it up. BUT are killers on Kidneys. I do watch what I eat now. moderation is key. I still drink alcohol, But again . Moderation. allopurinol will help the uric acid levels. And lots of water. Ive dealt with this mess 60% of my life.

Thankfully :knock on wood: i havent had it in a knee in years. But a good DR will inject a pain killer. an insti inflam and cortisone into that knee after draining it. takes pain from a 12 to a 3 in moments.

Yes I had to get a shot in that knee. For years every time I had a x-ray the Dr would say I had a little arthritis. I think it was gout after finally having a blood test that came back with high uric acid levels. Probably had it for years and never knew it. Just about every joint showed arthritis in x-ray before diagnosis. I had more problems with knees and ankles before getting on allopurinol. Maybe one flare-up in big toe through the years. I ate a lot of deer meat before. Chicken and duck are considered gout friendly. Cut out all store bought lunch meats. Processed meat with nitrates , Vienna sausage, bologna, salami, ham etc.

I have had a few bouts of it and have been told by my Dr. To avoid certain foods, just curious if anybody has any advice or experience with it? I do know it is pretty damn painful !

I started taking digestive enzymes and Curcumin, fish oil, etc and it never came back. I didn't want to be on Rx drugs that are hard on kidneys and liver for something like gout...Also being more active might help and dropping most drinks except water and tea. LMK if you want me to send you the exact things I take. I also experiemented with some various "gout-specific" natural supplements with black cherry extract, but stopped taking those years ago and still no gout.

I had what I am assuming was gout (or pseudo gout) a little over a year ago in both knees. Started in my right knee and two days later was in the other. I could not walk w/out crutches over that weekend. I went to urgent care and they took X-rays of my extremely swollen knees, but the nurse practitioner that was there that weekend was clueless. She never even mentioned the possibility of gout. Haven't had an issue since. Hoping that doesn't change!

How impactful was cutting out alcohol, in relation to your g

I was a beer drinker and it cut it down 5 to 6 times less situations. My Dr. told me carbonated beverages also can be a problem. I have flare ups once or twice a year now, before it was monthly, and usually if I drink a gallon or so of water and cut back on carbonated beverages I can usually get it under control in a day or 2.

gout is one of those topics where virtually everyone has a different opinion on correct treatment.

gout specialist state if uric acid levels change dramatically .. that could trigger a full blown gout attack. some specialist say watch your diet, others states diet makes little to no difference on triggering a gout attack, etc etc

Gout or psuedo gout. My medical professionals do not agree. Whichever it is it is painful. Just had a flare up last week.

only recommend type of steroids not specific.

prednisone hands down receives the best feedback for gout

timing is everything .. once a flareup goes into full blown attack ie the slightest touch brings one of the most painful ... you could be down for a week or longer

if one takes prednisone at onset of a flareup ... you may only be down for a day or not down at all. the objective is to take smallest dose of prednisone and still be effective at controlling your flareup.
