Oh, but you can if you have the right variant..

I LOVE my Vepr 7.62x54r. I'll only buy Molot made Ak's from now on.
I've owned Romaks, Bulgarians, Chinese, Saigas. The Saigas are nice, but the Molot made Veprs win imho.

www.centerfiresystems.com has good prices on them.

Talk is cheap. Lets see some 1 MOA groups at 300 yards you tough guy you.

It definitely adds to the fun factor. However, I would caution you that the larger round doesn't necessarily translate into better terminal performance on a live target. M193 and M855 rely on fragmentation of the round as the primary wounding mechanism. 7.62x39 M43 is unimpressive in terms of terminal performance. There is a reason the Soviets switched to the 5.45x39 round. :)

Fragmentation is very unreliable. .223/5.56mm is a b!tch cartridge against 7.62xANYTHING. An extremely accurate b!tch cartridge that one man can carry a lot of.
