I wonder how much weight you'd have saved by not applying that butt-ugly camo finish? ;)

yeah, I was really caking it on there hoping for a full ounce :P You have an ugly butt!!

Thanks. My 16" is a pig, so I've been looking into doing something lighter, so this is an interesting discussion to me.

And is that 1lb 8oz for stripped barrel, or with that GB? That gas block looks like a heavy one, might be able to cut more off using something else there. Also, what is the final diameter of the barrel? And did you turn it down yourself?

From what I can find, a standard 16" lightweight profile barrel is in the 24oz neighborhood stripped already, so I'm curious how much you're really saving.

Gas block is solid steel and heavy.
Barrel turn down:
.600 under guard
three steps from gas block .525 .490 .475
I think it looks thinner than it is without flash hider.
Light A1 barrel cut down to 16" would weigh the same - that's why I didn't worry too much about thickness.
