Only things of his I've not really liked completely were his Keldara or Ghost books. I prefer my pornography In Braille. Not interested S&M, either. That series I have to read like Heinlein's last few novels. Skim the porn so I don't miss necessary parts of the story, but don't actually read the porn.
Yeah, on re reads I generally skip the naughty bits, in the Ghost series. Other than that, they are great books.

My in-laws spent almost their entire lives never locking their doors. Not until one of the kids moved in as caregivers did their doors get locked at night even.

Granted they lived 15-20 from the nearest paved road for most of it. I don’t feel comfortable leaving them unlocked when I’m home anymore. I don’t want to have to shoot some meth head and deal with the after effects.
We live 3/10 mile and 129' above the nearest road. We never locked our doors and always opened them up in the mornings when wanting more ambient light indoors.
In 35 years of living here, only had one incident where a dog barked and we saw a vehicle coming up the driveway.
Waited for about 10 minutes watching both front and back windows to see if anyone walked by and they never did.
Had a .44 mag revo in hand and slipped out the back door. Two guys were standing at the back of their truck with a beer in hand.
Asked them WTF they were doing there that startled them and got a response they were just looking to get off the road to drink some beer. (At our garage door?)
Never presented the pistol to their sight, and they agreed to leave.
Nothing since, but with the crime reports online with druggies looking to steal to sell we keep everything locked up during the day. Rural crime is increasing as the criminals are venturing out thinking they will be easy pickings. That may be the wrong thinking.
