My family went through the same crisis. No gifts for anybody but kids and grandkids.
My Sister screwed the pooch, and my wife did the same that I was not aware of.
We had a back room come to Jesus moment for both and it was settled.

Too much commercialism, people absolutely have to buy and that puts them in debt fr the next 12 months. The Chinese toys break before the extended family even leaves the house. We've forgotten the true meaning of Christmas somewhere along the way.

Well given that most Americans spend more than they make and seldom make big purchases with cash - opting instead to carry massive amounts of credit card debt, i'm not sure this is a good thing.
