We are "buying" my mother-in-law's car since she can no longer drive due to health reasons. I want to switch the title to our name but am concerned how this might affect the warranty on the car as it's a two year old Nissan with only 5K miles on it. Does anyone know if dealers check ownership or do something to verify these kinds of things? There's nothing wrong with the car and if something did come up she probably wouldn't be able to actually go to the dealer.

Thanks in advance.

Just be sure to call nissan upon buying the car and update the registration in their system. This will make it where you get any recalls, etc.

The warranty is there regaurdless of how you get the car unless it is salvaged or rebuilt (which its not).

I sold used cars for over a year from Carmax and it was always apart of our process to provide the mailing address and the website where you could update such information, but a simple call to nissan will solve it.

Warranty transfers over like posted. Also let the OTC know it was owned by your mother and you can pay the transfer fee I believe and not have to pay the tax on the car again.

The factory warranty is always transferable and nothing at all needs to be done. Your name or her name doesn't mean anything to Nissan but you might make sure to change it the next time you take the car in for service.

If she also had an extended service plan and you wanted to use that too then you would need to transfer that to your name and some of them (probably most) would require fees to transfer.

Recall info usually gets pulled off of tag/title documents, so once you change that then Nissan would send you the recall info and not her if there is ever any.
