It happened in New Jersey. Yes it was overturned but it still was used by a family court judge. so you are wrong in saying it will never be used1.) Sharia law could never be used in the US anyways so this law effectively accomplishes nothing.

First of all lets get something clear: NO ONE IS ADVOCATING FOR SHARIA LAW!!!! Some of you guys keep talking about liberals yada yada yada. Everyone agrees that Sharia is a barbaric law and should not be allowed in our country. I'm pretty sure even the most hardcore liberals don't want sharia law in the country. What I understand from previous discussions is this:
1.) This law would accomplish absolutely nothing and is purely symbolic. Sharia law could never be used in the US anyways so this law effectively accomplishes nothing.
2.) This law could possibly hurt Oklahoma by detering businesses that operate internationally from residing in Oklahoma.
This law does nothing good, is potentially harmful to Oklahoma and is clearly written as a piece of legislation to lure conservative voters to the ballot box. I'm all for making sure sharia law stays out of Oklahoma but not at the expense of possible job opportunities for Oklahomans. If the law was worded differently so that it couldn't hurt international businesses then I don't think anyone would be against this law. You guys should stop letting your hatred of islam cloud your judgement.

First of all, can we quantify the damage this "might" do to Oklahoma business opportunities? Seems to me our deplorable infrastucture, divisive squabblefest politics, overpriced yet underperforming school system, high taxes for limited services, poor health, high insurance costs and limited pool of qualified employment applicants might be slightly more damaging to Oklahoma's international business draw than an obscure anti-Islamic law might be. JMO, YMMV

It was used by one wacko judge and pretty much instantly overruled. I think you just made my point that Sharia law isn't allowed to be used in the US. It think this example shows that even if a wacko judge tried to use Sharia law in the US that it would be instantly overruled, as it was. If anything, I think that case has established a precident that sharia law could not be used in US courts. If there starts to be cases popping up where the use of sharia is recognized by the courts then I will start freaking out with the rest of you guys. But if we ever get to that point I think we will have much bigger problems on our hands.

I pretty much agree with everything you said there. But you can't quantify the damage that a law like this might do to international business because we don't know what the future holds. But if the law in any way played a part of keeping even just one international company from doing business in Oklahoma then I don't think it would be worth it. The truth is when this law passes (and it will pass) we would never know if it ever had any effect on business. It would never be a public conversation. So we will never know if it really has any effect on international business in Oklahoma.
Again, I have to make this clear: NO ONE IS ADVOCATING FOR SHARIA LAW OR EVEN DEFENDING ISLAM / MUSLIMS!! I dont' want sharia here just as much as the next person. I just think the chances of this law possibly hurting international business in Oklahoma (as small as those chances may be), or hurting Okies who were wed in exotic locations, are greater than it ever affecting anything involving sharia law in Oklahoma. The best case scenario when this law passes will be that it will be just another obscure law on our books that will never be referenced, and who really wants that? If the law was written differently I would have no problem with it.
Veggie did a better job explaining this subject in his previous posts than I can.

Very very true. Still, it is a stupid law that makes us look like backwoods hicks.
