Well, There are probably 10 million people within two hours drive, any direction from the USC campus. THe other schools is UCLA. Both have diehard followings but probably give the nod to USC with more fans in socal. There are probably more fans of SC just in the local area of socal than OK has in its entire population. When SC is winning and contending their sidelines are like a red carpet at the oscars. Not my cup o tea but that alone brings in viewers, fans and more improtantly, recruits. I give Riley 2-4 years to contend for the National Championship because every 4-5 start in socal will want to go play for him.I think usc is about to be a juggernaut again in 3 ish years
Boaty, don’t forget about all of osu’s underperforming teams. Glass house and all. And most of the defense graduates this year. Basically, stop acting like an OU fan
Only 10% of people in so cal need to give a crap about college football for them to have 2.4 million fans. There are only 3 million in the entire state of Oklahoma. Care to guess what will happen if usc improves their infrastructure and actually wins? More fans.
True story. Last time I was out there working was when we played USC in the big one and got whipped. Of course I had an OU shirt for every day of the week and proudly wore them. Everyone was good natured about it and there was a quite surprising number of Sooner fans there too. The Friday before the big game we all (from work) went to a somewhat upscale sports bar somewhere in the Brea/Yorba Linda area. I went to the bathroom and it was down a narrow hall and this old drunk guy on his way out in passing shouted Oohh Youu?Well, There are probably 10 million people within two hours drive, any direction from the USC campus. This happens across the board on coaching changes. Many decommit until they know what’s going on. Some people follow the coach. OU and OSU just haven’t had to go through it in the new climate as their head Coaches have been shockingly stable for decades now.OU loses 5-star QB, 3 others amid Riley departure
Oklahoma lost four commitments on Sunday following the news that Lincoln Riley had accepted the head-coaching job at USC, including five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson, the No. 3-ranked prospect in the class of 2023.www.espn.com
4 Decommits so far…
Seems to be orchestrated by Riley as the de commit letters were released within two hours of each other with almost identical language.
I bet Riley’s Agent created the LSU smokescreen.
Yep. The first job of a new coach is to re-recruit the commits from the previous staff. OU and OSU have both avoided this circus in their football programs recently by promoting from within, but I’m pretty sure they’ve both seen it in their basketball programs when coaches have changed. This happens across the board on coaching changes. I think Bob left on his own terms—after all, he was still in charge of football operations. I said at the time (and still think) that the precipitating event was missing his sons playing in the 6A championship game. He realized that he was missing out on important stuff in his life, and being able to leave the program in a good place made that time the right time for him to exit gracefully.Just goes to show what I know (or don't know), I would have bet a $20 that Bob Stoops would NOT be the Interim Head Coach. I would have thought it would be (wait for it) the Defensive Coordinator! So now we have "guest" head coach. Hey, I love Bob, don't get me wrong. And I think he kinda got the boot early so they could ensure Lincoln Riley would stay to be the head coach (and what ever happened to all of those "head coach in waiting" titles that the collages used some years ago. I don't think it worked out they way they thought it would . . . )
