I admit that I was one of the ones calling for his firing. I was mainly thinking that the issue was with that whole Co-Defensive Coordinator thing and Mike Stoops' previous dominate defense when he was there before made him the one to go. I (and they) were clearly azzbackwards and they fired the wrong guy.

He's been in the SEC for awhile and knows how to operate there, he'll be coming from a top tier team there, and nobody questions his enthusiasm and drive. AT..ALL. I think he'd be a great pick unless they can pull off sniping Saban. I can't stand him, but he actually is a helluva coach. But I doubt he'd want to be in Oklahoma anyway even if they could find a way to lure him.

I hope its Venables. He is a hard nosed defensive guy and that's what OU needs heading into SEC play.

Venables kids throwing some horns down shade on social media.

There is certain irony to the secrecy complaints with Lincoln.. very much mirrors OU and Tex leaving the big 12 and AD’s not being truthful for a few days about it. Was just faster.

I’m pledging donations to OU if they bring back John Blake. Well that won’t work, he’s dead :(

Correction! He’s been in the ACC not the SEC

Wow Brian Kelly is going to LSU. Another bomb shell. ND still has a chance at the playoff.

This is an insane carousel. Florida, LSU, USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame all open in the same year. And possibly Ohio State if Day jumps to the league? Wow.

The price of getting it wrong is very high. Ask Nebraska, Florida, USC… OU may remember it, John Blake and Schnellenberger. In hindsight. I think Gary Gibbs did a pretty good job given the ncaa sanctions.

This is Gibbs's 4th year at OSU as a Defensive analyst.

OU is probably the only team that compete with Alabama and Georgia. OU beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl last year. They beat Auburn in the Sugar Bowl 3 years ago. And they beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl with Trevor Knight. Texas even beat Georgia in a bowl game a couple years ago. We will see how big and bad the SEC really is and maybe how underrated the Big 12 is.
You keep living in the past. It really doesn't matter who OU beat the last 3-4 years when people are predicting what the future will look like in 2-4 years with OU in the SEC. Lots of things change from year to year. Look at how good OU was two and three years ago. They are a shell of themselves with a stacked team they had. Today, no where near the powerhouse they were. Good, yes, but not like they were. Look at LSU, Ole Miss, Cincinnati and a whole hose of other college programs that were mediocre a couple years ago and are now on the rise. Also looks at the schools that were killing it each season and now struggle to win in 2021. I get that OU history is pretty fantastic but OU need to make sure they don't have the mentality of the USC from the early 2000s when Pete Carroll was the coach and quickly drop off the face of the college football earth. A big part of this will be who they hire as their new HC.
