I have a laptop that will only allow me to install 98 SE....

Locks up on xp, vista, 7, even 2k......

its dual core.. already swapped ram..

Check the HDD settings in the BIOS. May be in the wrong mode.

I have swapped settings for the HD... reset BIOS... manipulated BIOS... Voodoo rain dance... When I picked it up.. it would lock uploading right after MUP.SYS.... When it had XP on it..


I think its at the Loading windows files that it locks plum up.. I'm wondering if its a video issue that xp and up's drivers choke on.. But i'm only half geek... on muh mama's side...

Yep. Except the time I tried to update 98 to xp.

Hi,

Don't forget to try to update your BIOS to the latest revision too, if there is a newer one. Manufacturers often release new BIOS's to support/fix issues with newer OS's...

SATA Hard drive? If so you might have a slipstreamed version of 98 that has the correct SATA drivers already on it but the other OS disks do not. Check the manufacturer's website for SATA drivers.

This right here. Check to be sure the HDD is not set to AHCI in the BIOS.
