I had an early interest in this plane when I built a model of it as a kid. I remember researching it, and if I remember right, it had a tendency to lose control easily and cost the lives of quite a few pilots. I still always thought the entire design with the doors and mid-engine arrangement was cool.
I also remember in the '80s reading a warbirds magazine that said there was a P-39 undergoing restoration at the airport at 21st and 129th? Harvey Young? Whatever happened to that plane, I wonder? I was still in Kansas at that time, and was unfamiliar with Tulsa, but I remember that article.
