BCM is top tier kit for not much more than the others you mentioned. You wouldn't need to do any upgrades to it, but could get a better trigger or forend if you felt you needed them. My money would go towards ammo over upgrades though.

If you don't want to spend any more than you absolutely have to, check out Palmetto State Armory. Good stuff for a great price.

The tools really needed you likely have in your garage. I did mine with some screwdrivers, a pair of pliers or two, and some electrical tape.

One other company to consider that sells stripped lowers and upper receivers already assembled, and I am surprised no one has mentioned them yet, is Palmetto State Armory.

EIDT: GTG beat me to it.

If you buy a complete lower and complete upper, no tools required at all.

For the lower, all you really need is the castle nut wrench (which someone offered already), a roll pin punch, and good lighting.

Another recommendation for Palmetto State Armory here.

BCM is fantastic, but far from an "entry level" rifle...and good luck assembling a BCM for $700.

I assembled a carbine-length M4 from PSA parts last year for well under $700.

Why do you think they're not "entry level"? Can "entry level" not be quality? One of the GREATEST misconceptions for new (and not so new, obviously) AR owners.

http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-mid-16.htm - $400
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-...Auto-M16-p/bcm bolt carrier group auto mp.htm - $150 (was $140, dammit)
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/AR15-Charging-Handle-BCM-p/bcm charging handle ar15.htm - $23
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Magpul-MBUS-Gen-2-Rear-Back-Up-Iron-Sight-Black-p/mag248 black.htm - $58

Complete ready to go upper $631
Plan on $300-350 for a good lower
Aimpoint for another $400
Mags and ammo for $400

Yeah you're right, it can't be done for $700.
Quality does cost money. You get what you pay for. Buy once, cry once. To each their own. Ect. Ect.

Is it a stupid thought that any thing that has been discussed so far can be in-state? It is both the fact that I would be shipping things (which is something i'd like to avoid) and that I'd rather do business face to face. Is there a OSA member here that would be willing to help me in person build an AR?
