I bought a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem. a couple of years ago from my cousin. He bought it from someone in CA. I was messing with the stock and found an owners name and address under the pad. I've searched and I think he's still living in NY a few miles from the original address.

I'd like to write him a note and see what he can tell me about the rifle, but what if he responds that the rifle was stolen and he wants it back. What would I do then,...I don't have any evidence to the contrary and he's got my name and address.

Am I just being paranoid...?

If he wants it back make him buy it for half the price you paid for it. Or just put a po box # for the return address. I'm sure someone wouldent want a rifle back that's been gone for some years but then I dont think like the group of geese anyway.

That is one fine weapon and an excellent round.
Be sure and try some of those Hornady Leverevolutions in it.

I doubt the guy would want it back after that many years.
Probably turned it in to his insurenace and bought another.
I don't think I would contact him, I'm happy with mine and know all I need to know about it.

Why not check with Law Enforcement to see if it's been reported stolen before contacting the owner?

Also, what information are you hoping to gain from contacting him? What kind of history could the rifle have that would make it more valuable to you? Just curious, what it is you're looking for...
