My letter has been sent, I have now done my part in this process.
I do think Gov. Henry will be a douche bag and veto it. I think he is still hoping to be a part of the head douche bag's administration, and vetoing all good gun legislation will be his ticket in.

:werd:

He's just waiting for the last minute to stave off another override. I don't believe our emails will have any effect whatever.

Hopefully he'll prove me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

Governor Henry,
I am writing you in support of HB3354, which I am sure you are very familiar with. I ask you to please take a leading role in a movement to increase our civil liberties and make Oklahoma the 44th state to legalize what is already a constitutional right. Although you might fear that open carry could bring the risk of social dangers, I assure you that no other states have had such an experience. If you would browse over forums such as okshooters.com, you would understand that the majority of second amendment enthusiasts would still choose to conceal, but would appreciate the increased freedom, and the lesser risk of penalty when the silhouette of the gun accidentally shows while concealed. I appreciate all of your service to this great state, yet this bill would definitely serve as a cornerstone of your time in office. I sincerely hope that you sign HB3354 and show your allegiance to the Oklahomans (including the over 11000 that have signed the open carry petition), and not to a group out of San Francisco.

God Bless Oklahoma,
Taymoor Pilehvar

this is what I would like to send to Brad Henry. I have not yet sent it, because I would like some of the members to proof read it and/or give me some constructive criticism on the content. I'd like to send it soon, so let me know what you think.

Ok, so I'm lost on all this now.

Does Henry have the bill to sign/veto/ignore or is it Stalled in the house still?

It is awaiting a motion to reconsider in the House. That can happen no later than Monday. As long as the motion does not prevail, then it will go to Henry's desk.

The motion fails if either a Member doesn't actually make the motion (Duncan only served notice of a motion, presumably for control, but see below for my doubt), or if someone makes the motion and the motion is voted down. That shouldn't be too difficult, considering that it only needs a simple majority.

But where that places us with Henry is if he chooses to wait until Day 5 to veto, then we will only have 7 legislative days to override it.

If Duncan REALLY supported getting it through ASAP, he would've made the motion to reconsider on Wednesday, the first day after serving notice.

I'm just curious as to how many people who hold concealed carry permits would carry openly if this came into effect. The only time I would carry openly is if it didn't require a permit. If you have to have a permit, and you have the option to conceal, why wouldn't you prefer to carry concealed? Seems to me, carrying openly would make you more of a target...plus, I'd get pissed by constantly getting hung up on doorframes, lol.

I would. Especially in the summer. I would carry concealed when I felt it was more
appropriate (my reasons, not someone else's).
