And this tax BS to fund schools.......I shouldn't be paying any of it, since I don't have any kids. It's not MY responsibility to pay for YOUR kids education.

I used to think this way, too - I don't have any kids either, and in Tulsa County, the biggest portion of my taxes go to the school system. Then I realized that today's kids may be my doctor, dentist, or lawyer someday...

I think my taxes are high enough already. About 35% on income, another 11% on all the guns I build (which is my income) and then another 9% when I buy something. The government is taking 55% and I get to spend 45%......and I'm the guy doing the work. Then add in property taxes, car registration, etc and the numbers get even worse.

Tony

When firms look to migrate to a state, they don't just look at tax rates. One of the most important, if not the most important, considerations is having an educated work force to draw from. Strong Oklahoma public schools create an educated work force which attracts businesses to Oklahoma.

If more Oklahomans are better educated and have better jobs, that's more Oklahomans with money to buy tricked-out Saigas. Just some food for thought.

E: Also the current tax policy is to levy a $25/year business activity tax in lieu of intangible property tax. $25 per year. That's about how much you, as a small business, will pay in intangible property taxes if SQ766 fails.

Ok, ive read the thread, im still at a loss. Sounds like it wont really affect non business citizens.

I dont own a business, the majority of Okies dont either. Why should I vote against this? Why should I vote for this?

Break it down, make it simple, otherwise I could vote you a tax burden.

Read the OKPolicy link I posted.

It's a tax break for big companies, because only big companies have the kinds of stuff they are talking about.

Cities and towns will have less money so they'll need to take money away from things like police departments and/or raise taxes on the kinds of stuff that small businesses and homeowners have.

It's being sold to small business owners as a tax break for them, but in fact they will probably see higher taxes overall if this passes.

so it has the potential to raise my property tax if it fails, but if it passes, it allows towns to collect taxes from big and small businesses, thus i would not see a tax increase.

Thats kinda what im reading anyway, am i wrong?

You guys really need to go and read about this issue...

The tax never was in effect for anything other than public service corporations until 2009 when the OK Supreme Court that all companies had to pay it or none. So now... rather than the legislature doing it's job and figuring out how to re balance the revenue stream from the public service companies, they are just throwing it to the voters to decide. Other companies never paid this before and there is not LOST revenue from that stream... only from the public service companies IF the bill doesn't pass, but it will be an all or nothing deal. It's complete BS and should have never been rolled out this way.

So... talk more among yourselves.
