I've owned about 2 dozen guns, but never a cf autoloader pistol. I'm curious, just from what I've read, do all the 1911's & offshoots have to be carried hammer down and thumb cocked, or carried Cooper-style? Are any true DA?

cocked and locked. hammer back and safety on for the 1911. Beretta 92 that I have is DA or SA. DA the hammer is down and works just like a S&W revolver once you flip down the decocker after chambering a round. You could thumb cock and shoot single action if you wanted.
