Saying that “releasing ballons is a dick move because it’s bad for the environment” is a dick move.
Given you were failed by bad genetics and the public school system, you are intimately familiar with “dick moves”. Try doing some honest research. See if someone can help you with the reading part.

I would argue that I did more damage to the environment driving my truck down to go deer hunting.
Sure. For a shallow argument, that would work for you rather well. Why not add burning garbage and disposing of motor oil in a storm drain is also bad. Or you didn’t realize there could be two (or more) wrongs?

Also, if this balloon assuages a girl for the loss of her father, it is worth the damage it could potentially cause
If a balloon helps a grieving daughter over the loss of her beloved father, another argument could be made that the father failed her.

No Balloon Release? Yes. Also no "fake spiderweb/cobweb" at Halloween, Don't rake your leaves, let your grass grow, buy an EV, don't poison mice, don't use glue traps, compost trash instead of sending it to the dump, don't use plastic straws, the list goes on. Notice the trend, all anti-civilization. Most people don't launch balloons at funerals. Personally I think it is a nice spiritual gesture that isn't destroying the environment.

Thank you for your critique. It was so well thought out. Especially that part about genetics.

Hyperbole of “anti-civilization” aside, “99 Red Baloons” are not going to (gasp) “destroy” the environment. But at the least it’s litter that would make an Italian actor cry and at worst, they can cause some wildlife harm.

Many balloons were released for taking weather readings in the past, upper wind speeds, barometric pressures, temperatures, etc. most of that can be determined by more advanced radar in today's world. Ham Radio guys release balloons with transmitters for practice of tracking them, but most of them are recovered by hams unless they are confiscated by the Government after being shot down by F-16s which happened recently. Proper FAA paperwork had been filed prior to release by the ham operators, but that information was not passed through the system on that one. It was about the same time as the China balloon was tracked coming out of Canada crossing our nation before it was shot down fiasco.

I know some people that release hot air balloons (i.e. a trash-bag with a candle underneath) every year in remembrance of their father.

My only thought was about the potential fire risk from the candle, wherever it landed.
Most likely the candle burns out before decent.

But regardless, it brings rememberance and comfort to the family. So that's a good thing.

I'd be grateful for a dick move of any kind, the last thing I tried was a 20 year old Guatemalan pole dancer, and when the string to her thong broke, things were starting to look up, then I realized I was out of dollar bills.
Been there done that.
Always - always keep a roll of quarters on you.

Actually I kind of grew up around strippers and clubs. You ever get told not to put money in your mouth as a little kid? There's a really good reason for that advice.
