I would never sell my ex wife or her husband a firearm. They both have felonies. One for 2nd offense possession of marijuana. The other one for multiple DUI's. I would have no problem with either of them being able to posess firearms they've both been trouble free for 10 years now. But hey they're felons and shouldn't be allowed to have a gun even though their crimes were non violent. Once you pay your debt to society you should be allowed to move on with the rest of your life free from the stigma of what you have done. But for that to work there has to be true truth in sentencing life should mean life and mental health services need to be greatly expanded. Just because you did a nickel doesn't mean you're free to go you should have to be evaluated by a mental health professional before being released. Timed served should be the payment of your debt and prison should provide opportunities and rehabilitation services not just house people killing time. Outreach can help and change the lives of many but heaven forbid we try toque a difference in people's lives we'd be accused of sending people to country clubs. The Swedish may be onto something with their prison system.

Well, if you look at the last three most talked about shootings; Tucson, Colorado and Newtown, all those guys not only were f'd up in the head but they all looked a lot crazy. Do I agree with background checks for all? No, so don't go there.

I know it is Kalifornia, but our gun shows are every bit as crowded as any place else and they sell plenty of guns here. You make a deal with the vendor and finish it up at his shop. Inconvenient, yes, but doable.

Had any of those three shooters been adjudicated?, if not then that means what is needed is an expansion of the background denial standards otherwise just having more checks will not change anything.

No, but from what I have heard there were plenty of instances for people/doctors/etc to do what they are suppose to do and report or commit people that are screwed up.see,s like there has been way to much PC crap associated with caring for the disturbed rather than telling family and friends how it really is with the nut job.

We know that for certain in the Colorado case. And now we find out the psych involved had other issues.
We're not holding some people accountable when they should report people and don't. Instead there is discussion of letting them flag people for denial,(already happening to vets) as opposed to reporting where the person is still entitled to due process.

Yeah, yeah...I know.
But does anyone seriously believe the government will actually go down a 'list' and then go door-to-door with a confiscation scheme? :D
There is no need to risk something so glaringly haphazard when they do just fine a li'l at a time.

Which skirts on another 'slippery slope' issue.....
First of all I don't like Obama's EO allowing the CDC more access/control concerning firearms issues.
IMO that is well outside of the scope of their purpose.

Secondly, with all the talk about increased restrictions and denials where medical and/or mental health is concerned I think we can all easily see where it can be dreadfully abused.
You know:
-if you've ever taken Zoloft for depression
-became suicidal after taking Chantix
-were prescribed xanax for anxiety
-undertaken pain management

Things like that shouldn't, in and of themselves, preclude firearm ownership and that's easily an area high in potential abuse.....not to mention the fact that it would seem (to me at least) to be a logistic nightmare if not an impossibility to weed thru' the good and bad.

Looking at the grand scheme of things it wouldn't seem that these 'lone nut going on a shooting spree' incidents really add up to much at all as far as the percentage of violence goes.
